Bruyère is seeking community leaders to join our Board of Directors as board members and community representatives.

 

About Bruyère  

Bruyère is Eastern Ontario’s leading health organization specializing in aging, rehabilitation, and care for those with multiple complex medical conditions. We bring together compassionate, person-centred care with world-class research to maximize quality of life for those we care for and their loved ones.   

  

Bruyère has a proven history of addressing gaps in our health system with compassion, innovation, and courage. Today, as an academic health sciences centre, we are training the next generation of health professionals to see—and take action on creating—a better health system for all.

Candidate profile

We welcome applicants who reflect the diversity of our teams and the people we care for.

 

Candidates should have sound knowledge of the health care environment or have played an active leadership role in their community with experience in one or more of areas below.

  • Information technology/cybersecurity;
  • Public affairs, advocacy and communications;
  • Construction & project management; and
  • Clinical leadership;
  • Lived experience with Bruyère’s programs or services.

Bilingualism in both Canada’s official languages and previous board or governance experience are assets.

Role of the board

Bruyère’s Board of Directors is responsible for overall governance of the organization including oversight of strategic direction, quality of care and stewardship of resources. The Board is comprised of 16 directors, community representatives and representatives from the boards of the Bruyère Health Research Institute and the Bruyère Health Foundation. 

 

Along with collaborating on strategic oversight, as a member of the board, board members sit on a variety of oversight committees including:

  • Board Quality Committee
  • Audit Resource Management Committee
  • Governance, Nominating and Mission Effectiveness Committee

Member commitment

  • Board directors are appointed for a two-year term, actively participate in board meetings and sit on a minimum of one oversight committee of the board.
  • Community representatives are appointed for a one-year term and sit on one oversight committee and are invited to attend board meetings.

 

The board meets for approximately two to three hours the last Thursday of every other month. Meetings are not held in the months of December, July, and August. Retreats and additional meetings may be scheduled.

 

Committees take place five to six times a year for a maximum of two hours.

 

All new directors and community representatives receive a comprehensive orientation, related education sessions and guided tours. They are also assigned a mentor to guide growth and development in the board role.
