Celebrating Life at Every Stage
Bruyère's campaign to unite and enhance palliative and complex care
The pandemic has reminded our society of the urgent responsibility we have to care for our elderly and vulnerable citizens. In our community this responsibility falls largely on Bruyère - the largest health care organization in the national capital region dedicated to serving older adults and the most vulnerable in our population. Bruyère is in fact among the largest health care organizations of its kind in Canada occupying four distinct sites including its own research institute.
Celebrating Life at Every Stage is a $6M fundraising campaign by Bruyère Health Foundation aimed at uniting and enhancing palliative and complex care.
Our renowned palliative care unit/team will move from Bruyère Health Élisabeth-Bruyère Hospital site to Bruyère Health Saint-Vincent Hospital site, and transform how we provide palliative care support, so patients and their loved ones receive the greatest benefit possible.
Bruyère is best known for its expertise in palliative care. Completing this important project will create major efficiencies for both Bruyère and its local partners and will dramatically enhance the level of this specialized care in our community.
With this move comes an important change - the ability to provide a palliative approach to care to ten times more patients, which is proven to greatly improve quality of life, reduce anxiety, and improve pain and symptom management at all stages of life.
Funds raised will be invested in the opening of a new palliative care unit. The project is now underway. Architectural drawings and renderings have been created and approved; finishes have been selected. Construction began this fall and will be completed by spring 2023. The new unit will be ready to welcome patients and their families by summer 2023.
