Nursing and Personal Care Attendants
As highlighted in our values, Bruyère encourages personal development, lifelong learning, evidence-based practice, teaching and research. Bruyère strives to give students the opportunities they need to build their careers and excel in the provision of health care.
Bruyère Nursing is a member of the Ottawa region Clinical Resource Committee (CRC) and follows the student placement guidelines of the CRC committee.
Nursing students are welcome at Bruyère in three different kinds of placements:
1. Observation Only
In this placement, students only observe the care provided without hands-on participation. Students are required to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to the commencement of the experience.
2. Basic Clinical Placement
Students are accompanied by a clinical instructor. The objective for the placement is to apply knowledge and skills learned in the school.
3. Preceptorship/ Consolidation/ Pre-graduate Experience
Students are on the unit for an extended period of time that varies from 2-16 weeks. They will have a preceptor who is an experienced Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse or a Personal Support Worker from Bruyère Hospital. The purpose of this placement is to consolidate the student’s knowledge into the clinical setting.
