About:
Dr. Matthew Bromwich is a Surgeon, Associate Professor of Otolaryngology, TEDTalker, and Innovation Philosopher at the University of Ottawa. He is the director of the CHEO innovation program TECHi and the physician lead of the CHEO RI program 8-80. Dr. Bromwich is the inventor of several medical devices and holds 5 other medical patents.
He aims to democratize access to medical care by delivering innovative and inexpensive solutions. In particular, he is the founder of SHOEBOX audiometry which currently employs 110 people and is a globally available hearing testing platform that has reached more than 3 million people.
Dr. Bromwich has published and co-published more than 40 papers and five book chapters on Otolaryngology and has held more than 12.7 million dollars of grant, research and investment funds. In 2014 he won the national “TELUS Award for mHealth Innovation”. In 2016 he was nominated for the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year award and he and his team won the 2016 Interface Health Challenge for their work on mobile hearing testing and won the David E Mitchel prize at the 2018 Manning Innovation Awards.
