He is a trained specialist in both medical oncology and palliative care, and is a leader in palliative medicine delivery and research. He also introduced the Palliative and Supportive Care Outpatient Program at the Ottawa General Hospital Cancer Centre.
Since 2015, Dr. Chasen has been working in Brampton, where his team established an 8-pillar model for palliative care, which includes community care, hospice, and survivorship. As Medical Director, his work led the Ottawa Hospital (2014) and Brampton Civic Hospital (2019) to be awarded the internationally recognized accreditation as a Designated Centre for Excellence in Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care from the European Society of Medical Oncology.
For his work, Dr. Chasen has received numerous awards at the local, regional, national, and international levels, including the Simone and Morris Fast Award for Oncology, the Elizabeth Latimer Award, the Eduardo Bruera Award in Palliative Medicine, and the National Institute of Health MERIT award.
