About:
The overall focus of Chantal Backman’s research program is on improving healthcare for older adults as defined by the five pillars of her research program including:
- Improving the quality of care and safety of frail older adults;
- Understanding the role of nurses in optimizing the quality of care of older adults;
- Improving care transitions between health care settings for older adults;
- Evaluating the use of digital health to improve safety for older adults; and
- Examining the provision of care to older adults with a specific focus on francophones in minority communities.
As a registered nurse, Backman’s areas of clinical expertise are medicine and general surgery. Backman is an Associate Editor for both the BMC Health Services Research and BMC Nursing journals.
Research Interests:
Older adults, quality and safety, mixed methods research, "big data" analytics, digital health, nursing.
