09/14/2018

Tenants from the Bruyère Health Village in Orléans are participating in the Road Worlds for Seniors’ Event, a world cycling championship using technology for seniors.

The Road Worlds for Seniors Competition focuses on exercise for seniors, a group of people who often are forgotten. The competition leads to joy and laughter while at the same time gets people training. The aim is to improve the health and the quality of life for seniors. This competition encourages them to exercise, compete and be motivated by positive experiences.

The competition uses Motiview, which was developed by the Norwegian company Motitech AS. It is a motivational tool that stimulates seniors and people with dementia to increase their physical activity, hence increasing their quality of life. Thanks to moving pictures and sound, the user can take a cycle trip through familiar surroundings and childhood memories.

The Road Worlds for Seniors Competition started in 2017 with 1050 seniors from care homes and day care centers from five countries. This year, the competition begins on September 3 and ends September 28 and they are aiming for 3000 participants worldwide!

They will crown a world champion for men, a world champion for women, the world’s best team and the world’s best support team. The winner(s) is the one(s) who has cycled the longest in terms of km during the competition period.

Good luck!
