We are pleased to announce that Heidi Sveistrup, PhD, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Scientific Officer of the Bruyère Health Research Institute (BRI), and the Vice President, Research and Academic affairs for Bruyère Health (Bruyère). Heidi accepts this 5-year appointment after almost 2 years serving in the role in an interim capacity.
“I am excited to engage with investigators, teams and board and community members to plan the next 5 years” says Heidi. “BRI has seen considerable success and growth in the last several years and we want to continue this path.” Innovative technologies and digital health will be a large focus of the strategic planning process. This will include partnerships between academia, clinical, industry, government, community and patient/family groups in all of our research focus areas.

Heidi Sveistrup, PhD, is an active investigator at BRI whose research focus is in stroke rehabilitation and the use of technologies to support wellness, engagement and long life. She is also the academic lead for the Bruyère Centre for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (CLRI).
Heidi will continue to hold her academic position as a full professor in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. Heidi served as Vice-Dean, Research and Graduate Studies for the Faculty of Health Sciences for eight years. She is a member of the University of Ottawa’s Brain and Mind Research Institute.
In the community, Heidi is involved with the Champlain Regional Stroke Network (CRSN) steering committee, Chair of the CRSN education committee and a member of the Veterans Ombudsman advisory committee.
