‘Hallways of Hope’ art pieces come home

06/17/2026

Last week, the paintings from the Hallways of Hope art initiative were installed on 5 North, a complex care unit at our Centretown Site.

The project began with a simple observation about how bleak the hallways of the unit felt. Inspired to uplift patients and transform the space, Clinical Chaplain Roshene Lawson approached local artist Christopher Griffin to create a collaborative “p(art)nership” that brought patients’ stories, memories, and experiences to life through personalized works of art, filling the unit with colour, meaning, and hope.

Working alongside Griffin, patients participated in drawing and creative sessions that inspired a series of vivid, large-scale paintings.

The collection was first unveiled at a vernissage at the Bruyère Health Centretown Site before being featured in a two-month exhibition at the Ottawa Art Gallery.

Now, the paintings have found their permanent home on the unit where it all began, where they will continue to inspire patients, loved ones, and care teams alike.

More than artwork, each piece reflects a personal story and serves as a reminder of the resilience, creativity, and humanity that exist within our community.

We invite you to visit 5 North to experience the collection and learn more about the stories behind the paintings.
