We are pleased to announce Dr. Kumanan Wilson has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer and Chief Scientific Officer of the Bruyère Health Research Institute and Vice President Research and Academic Affairs at Bruyère Health. Dr. Wilson is taking on the role after serving in an interim capacity since November of 2022.

Over the past year, Dr. Wilson has been instrumental in promoting research excellence across the institute and supporting Bruyère Health as it advances the delivery of care to its community.

“Connecting with our outstanding scientists over the past two years, I’ve been inspired by their passion, dedication, and their vision for the future of health care,” said Dr. Wilson. “I look forward to continuing to support our research teams as they tackle some of our greatest health challenges. The research Bruyère Health is conducting is more important than ever as our health care system provides care for an aging population.”

His focus will be on continuing to support research excellence in the areas of memory, aging in place, and long-term care; palliative care; rehabilitation and recovery; and social accountability.

Dr. Wilson is currently an Investigator with the Bruyère Health Research Institute and is a Full Professor and Clinical Research Chair in Digital Health Innovation with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, bringing expertise in digital health, immunization, public health, health policy and big data.

He is a specialist in general internal medicine at The Ottawa Hospital, a board member of AMS Healthcare, a member of the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics, and a scholar with Georgetown University’s, O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law.

Dr. Wilson previously held the role of Scientific Advisor in Innovation for Bruyère Health and the Research Institute for over three years, supporting investigators and innovators to secure funding, develop partnerships, and bring ideas into practice. He brings expertise from his own entrepreneurial background as the co-founder of CANImmunize on how to combine science and innovation to solve relevant health system challenges for Canadians.

We look forward to Dr. Wilson’s leadership!
