Dr. Paul Hébert Appointed President of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research

The Minister of Health announced that Dr. Paul Hébert has been appointed as the new President of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Canada's federal funding agency for health research. The CIHR supports the discoveries and innovations that improve our health and strengthen our health care system. Dr. Hébert is a physician and researcher best known for his groundbreaking work in clinical trials that have changed practices in health care settings worldwide.
Dr. Hébert will remain with Bruyère Health as a practicing palliative care physician and Senior Investigator at Bruyère Health Research Institute. His current research interests include palliative care, aging in place, social isolation and loneliness, and long-term care.
Dr. Hébert has played a key role in shaping the national scientific and health agenda through various leadership roles, including as Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) and as Executive Director for the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR), a partnered initiative led by CIHR, and many other scientific initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes through research.
Dr. Hébert is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and received the Landsteiner-Alter Award for his work in transfusion medicine.
