Innovate Ottawa: “Bruyère is changing the way Canadians think about aging”

Bruyère was included in a new online publication featuring 100 innovators in Ottawa for our work on promoting independence and reframing the way we think about aging.
Highlights include our:
- On-site smart apartment, a living lab where innovations are tested with the intention of enabling older adults to live safely and independently longer preventing, and in some cases, delaying the path to long term care.
- Assistive technology program leveraging SensAct, an open-source, low-cost microcontroller that can receive input from touch and gestures to relay information to the patient’s smartphone or computer.
- Use of non-immersive virtual reality (VR), overcoming barriers to exercise for older adults by enabling exercise in the home.
Bruyère is not doing this alone. We’re working with industry and academic partners that are willing to collaborate, iterate, and design products for the largest growing demographic of our time: older adults. These partnerships are key to helping us transform care and promote independence for aging Canadians.
